The Plymouth 2020 support team joined up with volunteers from Groundwork recently to clear rubbish from Ham Woods in the north of the City. Braving the elements, the team litter picked over 10 bags of cans, plastic bottles and general rubbish from around the entrance to the wood. A walk through the woods produced another 6 bags. The volunteering opportunity was organised through the Volunteer Centre at Plymouth Guild.
Rupert Goddard, Volunteering Programme Manager at Groundwork South West described the Plymouth 2020 team as a hard working bunch with a great sense of humour despite working in the rain. Rupert went on to say: "The Plymouth 2020 Team joined Groundwork's Conservation Volunteering team to help improve Ham Woods Nature Reserve.
"Volunteering is a great opportunity for people to take a step out of their normal routine and try something different. Volunteering with your work team can help you get to know your colleagues better and return to the workplace a more relaxed and cohesive team.
"At Ham Woods the team helped to clear litter from the entrance to the reserve. Later they enjoyed a guided nature walk through the reserve whilst cutting back footpaths to improve access for other users. Despite poor weather the team worked well and looked happy through out."
